In March of this year, we decided to go hunting in Dali, Yunnan, China because we heard that there were many wild animals there, and the scenery and culture were diverse. Chongsheng Temple Three Pagodas: This is the iconic building of Dali, located by Erhai Lake, and is a long-standing Buddhist temple. The three pagodas are Thousand-Year-Old Pagoda, Chongsheng Temple Pagoda, and Luohan Pagoda, which have different heights and shapes and are very spectacular. We took many photos there and also went inside the temple to feel the atmosphere and culture of Buddhism.
Erhai Lake: This is the mother lake of Dali and also the largest plateau freshwater lake in China. It is surrounded by Cangshan Mountain and Bai ethnic villages, forming a beautiful picture. We walked by the lake, enjoyed the lake and mountain scenery, and also took a boat ride on the lake to feel the clarity and coolness of the lake water.
Dali Ancient Town: This is the historical center of Dali and also a representative of Bai ethnic culture. It retains the architectural style and city walls of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, with a strong ancient charm and folk customs. We wandered around many small shops, bought some special handmade crafts and souvenirs, and also tasted some local snacks and tea drinks.
Foreigner Street: This is the liveliest street in Dali Ancient Town because many foreigners have opened bars, cafes, restaurants, and more there. It has a strong international atmosphere and multiculturalism, and also attracts many young people and artists. We had a Western-style dinner there, drank some beer, listened to some live music, and felt the vitality and fashion of Dali.
Shaxi Ancient Town in Yunnan: This is an ancient town not far from Dali, famous for its well-preserved buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is known as the “Oriental Venice” because of its well-connected water system and stone bridges. We appreciated the ancient town’s style and water views, and also visited some historical and cultural attractions such as museums, temples, and archways.
Dali cuisine: Dali has a rich variety of cuisine, both Bai ethnic specialties and Yunnan flavors. We tried many different dishes and snacks, such as Erhai fish, liangfen, rushan, shaguo erkuai, roast tofu, glutinous rice balls, and more. We thought Dali’s cuisine was very fresh and delicious, and also very suitable for our taste.
Through these attractions and cuisines, we have a deeper and more comprehensive understanding and appreciation of Dali. We think Dali is a charming and diverse place, with natural beauty and cultural highlights. We think Dali is a place worth visiting again and again, and we hope to have the opportunity to come here again, discover more surprises and joys.
