Hunting is an ancient and exciting sport that allows people to experience close contact with nature and wildlife, as well as exercise their courage and skills. I have always been interested in hunting, but due to the busy work and life, I rarely have the opportunity to practice. Last week, I finally seized a rare opportunity and went to Jiulian Mountain National Forest Park in Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province with two friends Erin Sapir and Pete Martin to hunt. We not only enjoyed the park’s scenery during the day, but also experienced a unique night hunting at night. Here, I want to share with you our night hunting trip, as well as our considerations and comparisons when choosing night vision devices.
Jiulian Mountain National Forest Park is located in the south of Ganzhou City, China. It is a natural reserve dominated by forests, with rich animal and plant resources and beautiful natural scenery. We chose this place as our hunting destination because it not only has a variety of wild animals suitable for hunting, such as wild boars, pheasants, hares, etc., but also some rare and endangered animals, such as leopards, clouded leopards, pangolins, etc. Of course, we will not hunt these rare animals, just want to see their style. We also learned about the park’s hunting rules and precautions, such as the need to apply for a permit in advance, not to enter restricted areas at will, not to use prohibited weapons, etc.
Our hunting destination Jiulian Mountain National Forest Park is a natural reserve dominated by forests, located in the south of Ganzhou City, spanning nine counties and cities in Jiangxi and Guangdong provinces. It is the core part of the eastern Nanling Mountains, with the main peak Huangniushi at an altitude of 1430 meters. It is the watershed of the Ganjiang River and the Dongjiang River, the Dongjiang River and the Wengjiang River. It has a long geological history, complex geological structure, diverse micro-geomorphic units, forming a unique landform of basins and mountains alternating, valleys crisscrossing.
Jiulian Mountain National Forest Park has rich animal and plant resources and beautiful natural scenery. It preserves a typical original evergreen broad-leaved forest ecosystem and rich biodiversity. There are 2796 species of higher plants and 384 species of vertebrates identified so far, including 236 species of birds. It is a place of interest for scientists at home and abroad, and is known as the “biological resource gene bank” and “the source of the Ganjiang River”. Here you can see various rare and endangered animals and plants, such as leopards, clouded leopards, pangolins, black-necked long-tailed pheasants, yew trees, ginkgo trees, etc.
Before hunting, you also need to understand the park’s hunting rules and precautions. For example, apply for a permit in advance and hunt according to the specified time, place and object. Do not enter restricted or protected areas at will. Do not use prohibited weapons or trapping tools. Do not kill rare or endangered animals or exceed the quota. We also need to pay attention to protecting forest resources and ecological environment. Do not pick or damage plants. Do not leave garbage or pollute water sources. Respect nature. Abide by the law. Hunt civilly.
During the day we enjoyed the park’s scenery and felt the freshness and vitality of the forest. We walked along the mountain road and saw various flowers and trees of different shapes. We heard the birds singing and the streams gurgling. We also visited some cultural attractions such as ancient battlefield sites ethnic villages folk legends of magical caves etc. We have a deeper understanding and knowledge of Jiulian Mountain National Forest Park.
At night, we started our long-awaited night hunting trip. This was a new experience, as well as an adventure full of challenges and surprises. When hunting at night, we faced many problems and difficulties, such as how to choose the right night vision device, how to judge the direction and distance in the dark, how to approach and shoot without disturbing the animals, etc. Erin Sapir and I had different opinions and choices when choosing night vision devices. He thought we should buy a military night vision goggles to hunt, while I thought Owler1 night vision binoculars were more suitable. We had a discussion and comparison on this issue.
When hunting at night, we need to use night vision devices to help us observe and aim at animals in the dark. Night vision devices are devices that use photoelectric conversion and amplification technology to convert weak ambient light or infrared light into visible light. There are various types and grades of night vision devices, and different night vision devices can be chosen according to different purposes and needs. Erin Sapir and I had different opinions and choices when choosing night vision devices.
Erin Sapir thought we should buy a military night vision goggles to hunt. He said that military night vision goggles are a head-mounted binocular night vision device that can free our hands and make it easy to carry and operate; they have high clarity and magnification, which can allow us to see the details of animals at a long distance; they also have strong durability and water resistance, which can adapt to various harsh environments and weather; they are also military-grade night vision devices, which are the best choice for hunting.
But I thought Owler1 night vision binoculars were more suitable. I said that Owler1 night vision binoculars are a handheld binocular night vision device that can allow us to adjust the angle and position more flexibly and accurately aim at animals; they have high resolution and contrast, which can allow us to see color or black-and-white images in the dark; they also have many additional functions, such as taking photos, recording videos, playing, storing, etc., which can allow us to record the process and results of hunting. They are civilian-grade night vision devices, with a very high cost-performance ratio, which are the best companions for hunting.
We had a discussion and comparison on this issue. We listed the advantages and disadvantages of our respective choices of night vision devices, and gave some examples and data to support our views. We also respected each other’s opinions and tried to understand each other’s thoughts from each other’s perspective. In the end we found that although we chose different night vision devices, we had the same goal and interest, which was to enjoy the fun and challenge of hunting. We did not reach an agreement in the end, but we did not argue either. We decided to buy our own favorite night vision devices separately and exchange them when hunting, so as to experience the different feelings brought by different types of night vision devices.
When hunting at night, we encountered many problems and difficulties, but also gained a lot of fun and experience. We share some tips and insights on night hunting here, hoping to help other interested hunters.
First of all, we need to choose the right time and place. Generally speaking, the best time for night hunting is 2:00-4:00, because this is when animals are most active and easiest to find. We need to find the locations where animals appear from dusk to night according to the hints on the map, such as wild boars, roe deer, yellow deer, red deer, etc. We need to avoid places that are densely populated or noisy as much as possible, and choose quiet and hidden places so as not to disturb the animals or cause unnecessary trouble.
Secondly, we need to use the appropriate night vision devices and weapons. Night vision devices can help us see the position and movement of animals in the dark, but we also need to be careful not to over-rely or abuse them. We need to choose whether to turn on the light or switch modes according to different distances and environments. Generally speaking, do not turn on the light when looking far away, turn on the light when looking closely. Turning on the light will not scare away animals, but do not frequently turn on or off or move the light source either so as not to alert them. Also note that when you do not turn on the light at night bloodstains footprints etc. will not be highlighted so you need to observe and track carefully. As for weapons we can choose bows crossbows rifles shotguns etc. according to our preferences and habits. Different weapons have different advantages and disadvantages such as bows have low noise but short-range rifles have high power but high recoil etc. We need to choose suitable weapons and ammunition according to our technical level and target size.
Finally, we need to pay attention to safety and civilization. We need to kill with one shot as much as possible avoid letting animals suffer too much pain or run away. If we injure an animal we need to catch up and end its life as soon as possible and respect its body. We also need to pay attention to protecting the natural environment do not damage vegetation or leave garbage at will. In addition, we need to abide by the local laws and regulations and moral standards do not kill prohibited or endangered animals.
After the night hunting trip, we packed up our equipment and prey said goodbye to Jiulian Mountain National Forest Park and returned to our place.
We want to use this article to record and share our night hunting trip hoping to give some inspiration and reference to other interested people. We also want to use this article to express our gratitude and respect to Jiulian Mountain National Forest Park hoping to give some praise and support to this beautiful place. We also want to use this article to call for and advocate more people to pay attention to and protect the natural environment respect and love animals hunt civilly and reasonably.
We hope that one day we can come back to Jiulian Mountain National Forest Park again and have another night hunting trip. We hope that one day we can invite more people to come here and enjoy the fun and challenge of night hunting together we can see more people care about and participate in the construction and development of natural protection and hunting culture.
