Myself, Buck Brook, and Marian Dorothy went hunting at Jinfo Mountain in Nanchuan, Chongqing, China. Since we were hunting at night, we chose the Chinese brand Wildguarder from Shenzhen. During this hunting trip, I tested the night vision binoculars with practical experience and also learned about the local customs and food.
Jinfo Mountain is a national 5A scenic area located in the north of the Damao Mountain range, covering an area of 1,300 square kilometers, with the highest peak at an altitude of 2,238 meters. It has three wonders: Karst World Natural Heritage, Biodiversity, and Buddhist Culture. It is a tourist destination that combines sightseeing, leisure, adventure, and scientific research.
The three of us took the high-speed train to Nanchuan in Chongqing and then took a bus to Jinfo Mountain Scenic Area. We booked a wooden house in the scenic area and planned to stay there for two nights. After putting our luggage away, we started our exploration journey.
On the first day, we visited Jinfo Temple, Jinfo Ridge, Jinfo Cave, and other attractions, feeling the natural beauty and Buddhist charm of Jinfo Mountain. Jinfo Temple is an ancient temple built in the Tang Dynasty, with a 7-meter-high golden Maitreya Buddha statue. Jinfo Ridge is the main peak of Jinfo Mountain, and you can overlook the entire scenic area from the top. Jinfo Cave is a huge karst cave with strange stalactites and stalagmites and an underground river.
On the second day, we decided to go hunting. We applied for permission from the scenic area management and rented an off-road vehicle and some hunting equipment. We brought our night vision binoculars, which is a night vision binoculars produced by Shenzhen Wildguarder Company. It uses a CMOS sensor that is sensitive to infrared light and a 5W infrared 850nm LED infrared illuminator, which can observe and record targets up to 984 feet (300 meters) in complete darkness. It also has a 2.7-inch LCD screen for easy viewing of images and videos, and can perform 3x digital zoom. It also has 1080P photo taking and 1920x1080P FHD video recording functions, allowing us to save our hunting memories.
We drove along the mountain road for about an hour and arrived at a remote forest area. After getting off the car, we began to look for the traces of prey. Since it was already dark, we turned on our night vision binoculars and adjusted the brightness of the infrared light. We quickly found the traces of some animals such as rabbits, pheasants, and wild boars. We quietly tracked and shot them, and our night vision binoculars gave us great help, allowing us to see the target’s position and movement clearly. We also used it to shoot some wonderful videos, recording our hunting process.
We caught a few rabbits and pheasants, as well as a small wild boar. We put them in the car and prepared to go back for a barbecue. On the way back, we also met some local villagers who greeted us friendly and told us some local customs and food recommendations. They said that Nanchuan has many characteristic foods, such as preserved pork ribs with square bamboo shoots hotpot, bean curd rice, oil tea, glutinous rice porridge, etc., all have a unique Nanchuan flavor.
After returning to the wooden house, we used the rented barbecue grill and charcoal to grill the wild game we caught, paired with some vegetables and seasonings, and the taste was very good. We chatted while eating, sharing our hunting experiences and feelings, and also talked about some other topics. We found this trip very interesting and unforgettable, not only experiencing the fun of night hunting but also appreciating the beautiful scenery of Jinfo Mountain and tasting the food of Nanchuan. We were also very satisfied with our night vision binoculars, which allowed us to see more clearly in the dark and record our wonderful moments.
